Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has unveiled the country’s second Second Science, Technology and Innovation Policy, which aims to make technology integral to Zimbabwe’s development. In the ten years since the first policy was launched, ICTs have had a tremendous impact on Zimbabweans, he said. With the government actively promoting the ICT revolution, the new policy is designed to actively promote the use of ICTs in areas such as energy, industry, health, agriculture and education. Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said he had recently returned from China, where it is clear that the country’s success is based on sound science and technology policies. He said Zimbabwe needed to learn from the likes of China and India, which had invested billions in science, technology and innovation development. Tsvangirai said the new policy was designed to impact positively on the lives of ordinary citizens, and to tap into the Diaspora to bring the necessary skills back into Zimbabwe. |
