Both Linux and Windows are great operating systems for running your Oracle database. This is a very mood question, but is still frequently asked. Some guidelines:

Linux:

  • Open;
  • No Vendor Lock-in
  • The Operating System costs nothing;
  • Less worries from virus issues
  • Very stable and scalable; and
  • Intended for use by experienced IT professionals.

MS-Windows:

  • Proprietary;
  • Don't allow much consumer choice;
  • More vulnerable to security and virus attacks
  • Intended for the computer illiterate masses.
